1. What cookies and browser storage are#
A cookie is a small text file a website stores in your browser and reads back on later visits. Local storage and session storage are similar browser features that keep data on your device; local storage stays until it is cleared, and session storage is cleared when you close the tab. The law treats them all the same way: storing or reading information on your device needs your consent unless it is strictly necessary for a service you have asked for.
All the items below are first-party: they are set by Converge, not by advertisers or other websites, except the optional Cloudflare security cookies, which Cloudflare sets on our behalf.
2. On the website#
Website cookies are set on the Converge website domain and its subdomains, so that the application opens in the same language and units.
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration | When it is set |
|---|---|---|---|---|
cvg_consent | Remembers whether you accepted or declined optional cookies, so we do not ask on every page | Strictly necessary | 12 months | When you choose Accept or Decline |
cvg_lang | Remembers the language you picked in the language menu | Preference you asked for | 12 months | Only when you pick a language |
cvg_units | Remembers your unit system (oilfield or metric) for the website and the application | Preference | 12 months | When you use the units toggle; or, if you accept optional cookies, from your region's default on your first visit |
cvg_region | Holds your two-letter country code, worked out by Cloudflare from your IP address, so the page shows regional examples and default units | Preference (optional) | 24 hours | Only after you accept optional cookies; set by our server on page loads |
__cf_bm | Cloudflare bot management: tells people apart from automated traffic | Strictly necessary (security) | 30 minutes | Only if Cloudflare's bot protection is switched on |
cf_clearance | Records that you passed a Cloudflare security check | Strictly necessary (security) | 30 minutes by default | Only after a Cloudflare challenge |
| Key | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
converge-theme (local storage) | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Removed when you choose System | Preference you asked for | Until you change it or clear your browser data |
The website loads typefaces from Google Fonts. This sets no cookies, but your browser sends your IP address to Google to fetch the fonts.
3. In the application#
| Name | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
cv_session | Keeps you signed in. Holds a random token; we store only a keyed hash of it. Secure, HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax | Strictly necessary | 14 days, extended while you use the app; deleted when you sign out |
cv_admin | Keeps Converge staff signed in to the admin portal (staff only) | Strictly necessary | 8 hours |
The application also reads the cvg_lang and cvg_units website cookies, where present, to open in your language and units.
| Key | Purpose | Type | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
eos-project-v1@<company>:<user> | Your working copy of the open project (fluid models, data, snapshots), so work is not lost if the page reloads. Scoped to your company and user | Strictly necessary | Until you sign out (deleted on sign-out) or clear browser data |
eos-ai-v1@<company>:<user> | Your AI Engineer conversation history in this browser. Scoped to your company and user | Strictly necessary | Until you sign out (deleted on sign-out) or clear browser data |
converge-project-owner | Records which company the project in this browser belongs to, so it is never uploaded to another account | Strictly necessary (security) | Until replaced or cleared |
converge-sample-offered | Remembers that the sample project has already been offered, so it is not offered again | Strictly necessary | Until cleared |
converge-theme | Your light or dark theme choice, shared with the website | Preference you asked for | Until you change it or clear browser data |
When the application runs without an account (local mode), the project and AI keys are stored without the @<company>:<user> suffix.
4. Consent and your choices#
- Strictly necessary items (sign-in, security, your working project, and remembering your cookie choice) do not need consent, because the service cannot work without them.
- Preferences you set yourself (picking a language, flipping the units toggle, choosing a theme) are stored because you asked for them.
- Optional preferences that we would set without you asking (
cvg_region, andcvg_unitsfrom your region's default) are set only if you accept them. Nigerian law requires active consent for cookies that are not strictly necessary, and EU law requires consent for anything not strictly necessary for a service you requested.
On your first visit, a notice asks you to accept or decline. Declining is as easy as accepting, and the website works either way. If you decline, we delete the optional cookies and show the global version of the site.
You can also delete or block cookies and storage in your browser settings. Blocking the cv_session cookie will stop you signing in to the application.
5. What we do not use#
We do not use analytics tools, advertising or retargeting cookies, social-media pixels, fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking. If that changes, we will update this notice and ask for your consent first.
6. Changes and contact#
We will update this page when we add, remove or change any cookie or storage item. Questions: [email protected]. More detail on how we handle personal data is in our Privacy Notice.
