GETTING STARTED

Projects

Create, open and save projects, keep versions, compare and restore them, and move a whole project in and out as a JSON file.

Overview

A project holds one field's work: the fluid, every module's inputs and results, and the project settings. You work on one open project at a time. When you are signed in, Converge saves it to your company's database as you work. In local mode, projects stay in your browser.

Create a project

Select New project on the Overview or in the project switcher (Switch project in the top bar). Converge saves your current project to Version history first, then opens an empty one named Untitled project with the getting-started checklist.

A new project starts empty: no module data, no lab points, and its fluid marked as not yet set. See Sample field and tutorials for a filled example.

Open a project

Open the project switcher (Switch project) in the top bar. It lists your company's projects, newest first, plus Project settings, New project and Open the sample field. Choosing a project saves any pending change, keeps a version of the current project, and loads the one you picked.

The Overview also lists the company's other projects and shows who last edited each one, by name ("you" for your own edits).

Save

Signed in, Converge saves automatically about 2 seconds after your last change. The indicator next to the project name shows the state:

Indicator Meaning
Saving… A save is in progress
Saved The project is on the server; hover for the time
Offline, saved locally No connection; Converge retries every 30 seconds and when the browser comes back online
Saved locally The server refused the save (for example a plan limit); hover for the reason

Your browser always keeps its own copy first, so a dropped connection does not lose work.

Saving needs the right permissions and seats:

  • Your role needs Create projects for a new project and Edit projects for an existing one. See Team and roles.
  • A project that holds data for a seat-licensed module saves only while you hold a seat for that module. If you do not, the server answers "Open the module to take a seat before saving its data."
  • A project can hold up to 1.5 MB of data.

The server records each change by module and field, with the old and new value, and the Overview's activity feed shows them.

Project settings

Open Project settings from the project name in the top bar or the project switcher.

Setting Notes
Project name, Field, Operator Name and field appear in exports and reports
Unit system Field or Metric, applied whenever this project opens. Not set keeps the top-bar choice. See Units.
Depth datum MSL, KB, RT, DF or GL, with the datum elevation above mean sea level (ft or m)
Coordinate system A free-text note, for example "WGS 84 / UTM zone 32N (EPSG:32632)"
Fiscal regime Royalty and tax (concession), Production sharing contract, or Nigeria (illustrative terms)
Date and number format A preference of this browser, not the project: Automatic, ISO, UK, Nigeria, US, French, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish or Norwegian. Numbers always use a point as the decimal mark.

Changes save as you type.

Versions

Version history (top bar) lists saved versions of the project, newest first, up to 50. Versions are kept in this browser.

Kind When it is made
Automatic Before a large change: a whole module replaced, 8 or more fields changed at once, pasted data replaced, an import, switching project, opening the sample. At most one per module every 15 seconds.
Saved When you select Save snapshot in the top bar
Named When you type a name and select Save named version

For each version you can:

  • Name or rename it.
  • Compare it with the current project. The compare view lists the modules and fields that differ, with old and new values.
  • Restore it. Converge saves the current state as a version first.
  • Delete it.

Versions you submit for review are different: they are stored on the server and an approved one is frozen. See Review and sign-off.

Export and import

Export a project

Select Export project file in the top bar. Converge downloads the whole project as JSON, named <project name>.converge.json. The file holds every module's saved state, the fluid models and the project settings. Values are stored in field units.

Import a project

Select Import project file in the top bar and choose a .json file. Converge checks the file before it touches your project:

  • It must be a Converge project file (schema 1) with a name and a fluid.
  • The fluid's API gravity, gas gravity, GOR and reservoir temperature must be numbers.

If the check fails, the import stops with a message and your project is unchanged. If it passes, Converge saves the current project to Version history and loads the imported one.

Delete a project

Deleting needs the Delete projects permission. A project that holds an approved reporting version cannot be deleted: approved versions must be kept.

Local mode

A build of Converge with no server runs in local mode: no sign-in, every module available, one project per browser, kept in browser storage. Export the project file to move or back it up.
