How do I get an account?

You choose business or student when you create your account. Business accounts start with a free trial of the core modules. Students sign up with a school email address, and the school must be on the approved list; if yours is missing, ask us to add it. See Create an account.

What does a student account include?

A student account includes black-oil PVT, compositional PVT with up to 12 components, the read-only Sample field across every module, and the guided tutorials that walk through it. Your own project starts empty, so coursework never mixes with sample values. Student accounts do not include simulator exports or API access. See Sample field and tutorials.

Why can't I edit the Sample field?

The Sample field is shared by every account, so it is read-only. You can browse every tab and run every calculation, but edits snap back and the page shows "This is the sample field. Make a copy to edit." Choose Make a copy to turn it into an ordinary project of your own. See Sample field and tutorials.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Converge runs in a browser tab, with no installer, no licence dongle and no licence server. The engineering calculations run in your browser, not on our servers, so a flash, a nodal solve or a simulation run does not wait on the network. You still need a connection to sign in, save to the company database and use the AI Engineer.

Does Converge work on a slow connection?

Yes. Your browser caches the app's code after the first visit and keeps the open project in browser storage while you work, so a normal session mostly sends your saves. Charts load the first time you draw one. The AI Engineer needs a connection to its model.

Which units does Converge use, and is pressure absolute?

You pick Field or Metric per project, and every input, table and chart follows it. Pressure is absolute: psia in Field, bara in Metric. Where a gauge reading is likely, the input says so: add atmospheric pressure to a gauge value (psig + 14.7 = psia) before you type it. Imports read psig, barg and kPa from the column header and convert to absolute. See Units.

What is the project fluid?

The project fluid is the one fluid every module reads: well performance, material balance, well test, simulation and the AI Engineer all start from it. You pick it once on the PVT page, from the black-oil model or one of the compositional models. Browsing other models in the compositional workspace does not change it. See Project fluid.

Which black-oil correlations are built in?

Oil properties come from a selectable correlation set: Standing (default), Vasquez-Beggs, Glasø, Petrosky-Farshad or Al-Marhoun, with Beggs-Robinson viscosity. Gas uses Sutton pseudo-criticals with the Wichert-Aziz correction for CO2, H2S and N2, Dranchuk-Abou-Kassem for Z and Lee-Gonzalez-Eakin for viscosity. Water uses McCain. When you enter lab points, Converge ranks the sets by fit and warns when your inputs fall outside a correlation's range. See Black-oil PVT.

Which equations of state are built in?

Peng-Robinson 1976, Peng-Robinson 1978 and SRK, each with Peneloux volume shift. The plus fraction is split with a gamma distribution and lumped to pseudo-components, with a choice of Kesler-Lee, Riazi-Daubert, Twu or Pedersen critical properties. Viscosity uses LBC. See Compositional PVT.

Which simulator formats can I export?

You can export:

  • black-oil PVT tables for nodal, material-balance and network models;
  • PVTO / PVDG and PVTW keyword tables, or a *PVT table, for black-oil simulators;
  • PVTG / PVTO for wet gas and condensate;
  • a keyword-format compositional EOS deck or EOS block;
  • RSVD / RVVD initialisation tables;
  • a CSV of every table.

Black-oil tables come from flashing the oil through your separator train, not from the reservoir flash. Well performance also exports lift curves. See Compositional PVT and Well performance.

Can we get our data out?

Yes, in open formats. A whole project exports as a JSON file and imports back the same way. Production data imports from CSV or Excel and exports as CSV, Excel or JSON. Fluids and tables export as CSV and in simulator keyword formats. The REST API and the MCP server give your own systems the same access. See Data and REST API.

Where is our data stored?

When you verify your company's account, Converge creates a database for that company alone. Projects, saved versions and seat records live there, never in the same tables as another company's. Sign-in and licence records are held centrally, apart from project data. Data residency is available on request. See Security.

Can we install Converge on our own servers?

Yes. An on-premises install keeps projects, saved versions and seat records in your own database on your own hardware. The engineering modules, from PVT to economics, run fully offline inside your network. The AI Engineer needs a model to talk to: a cloud AI provider your company approves, or a model you host yourselves. See On-premises.

Does the AI Engineer change my model without asking?

No. Everything the AI Engineer builds or tunes is a draft. It lists every value it read from the report, labels lab measurements as lab rows, and traces every number it quotes to a calculation it ran in your project. Your project fluid changes only when you accept the draft. See AI Engineer overview.

Can the AI Engineer tune a fluid model to my lab data?

Yes. Ask it to match your lab data and it regresses the equation-of-state parameters to the measured bubble point, separator GOR, densities and other results. It then reports the fit for every target and names any it could not bring inside the usual tolerance: 1 % on saturation pressure, 2 % on everything else. You can also tune by hand on the live tuning screen, where each update takes roughly 20 to 50 ms. See Fluid tuning.

How does the AI Engineer handle pressures and lumped components?

It converts gauge pressures to absolute before any comparison and lists the conversion. Every pressure it passes to a calculation carries an explicit unit (psia, psig, bara, barg, kPa or MPa). If a report lumps isomers, for example "C4" or "butanes", it asks for the separate isomers instead of guessing. See Citations and fallback.

Which AI providers does the AI Engineer use?

It uses the cloud AI providers your company approves, or a model you host yourselves on an on-premises install. If a model is unavailable, the AI Engineer falls back to the next model your company has configured, and only before it has started answering. It never sends a request to a provider you have not set up. See Citations and fallback.

Can I run the engines from code?

Yes, three ways, all calling the same engine functions. The scripting editor runs sandboxed scripts in Field or Metric units. The REST API is versioned under /v1 and documented with OpenAPI 3.1. The MCP server at /v1/mcp lets any MCP-compatible AI assistant run calculations and read your projects. See Scripting SDK, REST API and MCP.

How do API keys work?

Each member creates personal keys on the API keys tab of Integrations. A key starts with cvg_, is shown once, and acts as its member. Scopes are projects:read, projects:write and engine:run; a new key gets read and run by default. Creating keys needs the "Manage API keys" permission and a plan with API access, and each call uses an Integrations seat. API keys cannot sign off a review or manage other keys. See API keys.

How do floating seats work?

A seat belongs to the company, not to a person. Opening a module takes a free seat, and your browser checks in every 60 seconds. Closing the module or the tab gives the seat back, and a browser that stops checking in loses its seat after 3 minutes. The same person in two tabs uses one seat. An admin can release a held seat. See Licences and seats.

What can each role do?

Converge has four built-in roles. Owner has every permission and cannot be removed. Admin runs the team, roles, licences and audit log. Engineer edits projects, comments and submits versions for review. Viewer opens modules and reads projects but cannot save. A company can change the permissions of every built-in role except Owner. See Team and roles.

Can someone approve their own work?

No. On Review & sign-off, the person who submits a version cannot approve it. An approved version is frozen with a SHA-256 fingerprint of its data, opens read-only, and every step goes to the audit log. See Review and sign-off and Audit log.

Can I book reserves in Converge?

You can classify and roll up volumes under SPE-PRMS 2018 on the Reserves (SPE-PRMS) page: Reserves as 1P/2P/3P and Contingent Resources as 1C/2C/3C, with an economic-limit test and a year-end reconciliation, exported as CSV. The page is screening and reporting support. A qualified evaluator must still sign off reserves. See Reserves.

Are the Nigeria PIA 2021 templates good enough for a tax filing?

No. The PIA templates in Economics give screening values for royalty, hydrocarbon tax, company income tax, levies and PSC terms. They are not tax advice. Confirm every rate against your licence, the regulations and current tax law before you rely on the result. See Economics.
